Poses!
Somehow TK17 is able to import BVH animations and convert it. I even tried to find this script a few times, but couldn't. I still believe there's a way to export TK animations.

If the body addon you are trying to import is from PhoenixGarden, please share the link to it so I can give it a try.
If it is not, please don't share it. In this case, go to Blender > Window > Toggle System Console, try importing the file again and post here any errors that show up in the System Console.

I still never played around with the pose files, but every piece of 3D is kinda similar so I'd say that is doable.
Not sure about linking though (like when you attach the hand of a person to the hip/breast/etc of the other), but for the most part everything is probably possible.

Are you using version 1.6.1 of the addon? Do you have any other exceptions aside that?
The addon assumes that the default shader for new materials is the Principled BSDF. If for some reason new materials get assigned a different shader it will break.
Check what shader is used by default when you add a new material to a new object (cube, uv sphere, etc).
If it is some other than the Principled BSDF, then it may have to do with some configuration that I am not aware of.
