overtronA question of ethics .
#1
As ambitious as i am , there are things i can not do on my own.

That being said , being something of an outsider to the group , that's makes me low man on the heap concerning being considers for requests my the experts.

Now i am happy to barter my services for what i need done but being low man here , i don't get taken seriously .
While frustrated i understand it's the way things are and i don't hold it against anyone , in a sea of noobs and giveme's who would blame you.

Coming from an "artistic" community , the unskilled commission the skilled for artwork they wish done and i was thinking...
What i can do is commission those more skilled than i for projects that are beyond my skill level , offer up some form of compensation for your time to speak.

That's for your time only , the end results and derivative works are yours to do as you which once am satisfied with "the work"

This has come up before and i do understand , if goods starts exchanging hands it going to affect the group's nature and could bring on more serious consequences .

I turn the discussion over to you , may your wisdom enlighten us all.

That's a pretty poisonous road to travel.

What exactly would you compensate for?

Or to grab it by its more prominent root: In which regard do you not get taken seriously?

[Edit]I cannot stress how unremittingly bad an idea I think something like this would be.

which is why i started this discussion in the first place , both point deserves to be explored .

A bit of clarification on the language used .

To compensate : intentionally kept vague: meaning to offer "something" for the work, time and effort needed to do a "project" aka compensate you for you time.
this could be interpreted in reverse as well . offering a promise of compensation for "work" needed to be done , hence am not paying for the end product but for the time and effort it took to make it.

secondary , the nature of said compensation is intentionally vague , the obvious is monetary but that on it own has issues , alternatively compensation can take other forms such as goods purchased online and shipped as "payment"

This is admiringly an ethical ethical gray zone .

the second point you mention is about being taken seriously.
From wear i stand , it is unlikely that a skilled "modder" would take up MY request(s) just because , not with out some sort of incentive.
Asking has not got me anywhere , my "work" does not interest them so nothing to trade or motivate them for assistance and i will not beg or plead .
What i can offer is to reward them dot work i need node.

In a perfect situation exchanging services would be ideal , so far all i heard from the community was silence .

I think you're slightly misjudging the motives of most modders: it's about what's interesting and/or challenging - not whether you get something in return.

If I'm understanding correctly, I think the OP wants to commission some specific items, and is pondering how to compensate someone for their efforts.

The same basic rule still applies.

It's probably also worth noting that we are far from at full strength right now, so it will probably take somewhat longer to push through requests.

If that's correct, overtron, I would really urge you to just spend more time playing around with stuff and teaching yourself how to do the things you want. The learning curve looks steep, but once you're on it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the progress you make. I've made a fair number of requests at the Garden, and I don't think a single one was ever taken up by anyone. So far, I've figured out pretty much everything I want to do. Sometimes that means using stuff outside the game and compositing screenshots in gimp, but it's worth it to get the result I want.

ok how can i phrase this correctly , with a full time job and active social life , i have little free time.
of that free time i rather invested it in something that i feel will be more productive , such as hand draw artwork or painting and cgi artwork rather than blindly trying to teach my self tools i hardly understand.
a good example is when i tried to learn 3d paint , the time i spent on that fail i could have made 6 pictures , i went back to skinning with photoshop.

in brief i rather work with my strengths , and i hope you feel the same way , would you rather see more character skins and models from me or nothing while i teach my self slowly tools that are way beyond me .

I hope you sympathies a little more with my position.

Personally i would like to have a poster board here in wish we could post or availability for projects and exchange services wish each other on common projects.
